12 Oaks Foundation
This foundation was set up to honor the memory of Matthew Hupp, a promising and dedicated young 13 year old athlete, that tragically lost his battle with Burkitt’s Lymphoma in 2009. The 12 signifies the number that Matthew wore on all his jerseys, the Oak, the strength of community. 12 Oaks mission is to provide a resource that will help defray the cost of sports and community programs for children of families suffering financial hardship. Working with local organizations, the 12 Oaks Foundation will provide grants to families in need so their kids won’t have to miss some of the best parts of childhood. Funds will be awarded based on financial need, with special consideration given to children in families coping with cancer. Matt’s Mile and 5K was held on Matt’s 15th birthday. The one mile and 5k together make the number 15. The colors were chosen because Matt was an Illini fan.
